In the bushes - 2024
Plunged into an absurd world, In the Bushes celebrates the incomprehensible and magnificent contradictions of life whilst mocking the idea of human exceptionalism. Quirky, exuberant and witty, it questions our humanity with ferocious joy.
‘Masterfully choreographed’ (Broadway World)
Words on the piece:
“I wanted to embrace incoherence and absurdity. I wanted to celebrate nothingness, meaninglessness. One of my starting points for the show was a need to laugh and be light—both while making the piece in the studio and with the audience when they see it on stage. What are we hiding from? Who are we when we hide? Can I play with my preconceived ideas of dramaturgy?
What is left of humanity when nothing makes sense anymore?”
Léa

A reminder of the absurd creature that lies within us.
Lucy Ribchester, The List (UK)
A fun and fearful walk on the wild side.
Lindsay Windship, The Guardian (UK)
In the bushes fonctions as a provocation. It does not try to please. It holds its line.
WJ Quinn, The Quintessential (UK)
It’s frankly batshit crazy.
It’s this juxtaposition of real and surreal, art and reality, that makes ‘In the Bushes’ such a compelling proposition. If absurdity isn’t your bag it’s best avoided. But, if as Tirabasso intended, you can throw your expectations out the window and simply enjoy this as it was intended you’re in for a huge treat.
Mark Gorman, The Wee Review (UK)
While many scenes invited personal interpretation, their messages were often strikingly clear. Themes such as social exclusion and our responses to shame, envy, and lust formed the core of the performance. Through masterfully choreographed movement, a healthy dose of humour, and just the right touch of absurdity, these emotions spilled from the stage in a way that was both entertaining and thought-provoking.
Nuno de Sousa Lopes, BROADWAY WORLD (LU)
These dancing bodies obey only one rule: to be nothing identifiable, although frankly attractive. We witness a sort of spiritual rite, one of those that claim to facilitate a journey within oneself to better understand and thus better approach our reality. The language of Tirabasso is readable in this sense; "In The Bushes" presents a non-reality to highlight the opposite. With humor and imagination, the choreographer allows herself the improbable, and all of this becomes so entertaining that catharsis occurs naturally. Ultimately, we emerge from "In The Bushes" armed with unparalleled boldness to face this world of bleak normality.
Godefroy Gordet, LAND (LU)
A powerful composite form of theatre that has the complexity of a Hieronymus Bosch painting and the dream-like imagination of the surrealists.
