In the bushes - 2024
There is nothing special about being human, any more than there is anything special about being a guinea pig or a geranium.
The Accidental Species: Misunderstandings of Human Evolution, Henry Gee
Shot through with absurd humour, an ever-watchful eye and a touching naivety, In the bushes is our latest work.
It explores ideas around Evolution Theory, the Accidental Species* and the preposterous notion of human exceptionalism. Using our distinctive and meticulously-crafted choreographic language, we look into our exposed and naked souls and celebrates our humanity with ferocious joy.
Imagine pushing the leaves of a bush, and discovering a secret society, that has neither god nor master.
Johanna Bramli and Ed Chivers splice their new electronic score with bursts of classical and operatic music.

While many scenes invited personal interpretation, their messages were often strikingly clear. Themes such as social exclusion and our responses to shame, envy, and lust formed the core of the performance. Through masterfully choreographed movement, a healthy dose of humour, and just the right touch of absurdity, these emotions spilled from the stage in a way that was both entertaining and thought-provoking.
Nuno de Sousa Lopes, BROADWAY WORLD (LU)
These dancing bodies obey only one rule: to be nothing identifiable, although frankly attractive. We witness a sort of spiritual rite, one of those that claim to facilitate a journey within oneself to better understand and thus better approach our reality. The language of Tirabasso is readable in this sense; "In The Bushes" presents a non-reality to highlight the opposite. (…)
With humor and imagination, the choreographer, accompanied by six excellent dancers, allows herself the improbable, and all of this becomes so entertaining that catharsis occurs naturally. Ultimately, we emerge from "In The Bushes" armed with unparalleled boldness to face this world of bleak normality.
